Methodology

Local labor = movers × billable hours × hourly price per mover. Long-distance base = entered transport quote. Total = (base + additional truck / travel + additional packing + additional other costs) × (1 + contingency %).

Draft engineering scope: quoted or hourly input model, not a mileage tariff or a binding estimate. Inputs must avoid duplicate charges. Local mode prices each mover, not the full crew.

For a local hourly move, the calculator multiplies the number of movers by billable hours by the hourly price per mover. The hourly rate is per mover, not a price for the whole crew. For a long-distance move, the entered transport quote is used as the base instead of an hourly calculation. Additional truck or travel, packing, and other costs are added only when they are not already included in the base rate or quote. Contingency is then applied to the subtotal. With the default local example, 2 movers x 5 hours x $50 per mover equals $500 of labor. Adding $150 of truck or travel, $200 of packing, and $100 of other costs gives $950; a 10% contingency adds $95 for a $1,045 lower result. At $80 per mover-hour, the result is $1,375. This calculator is a planning calculation, not a mover's binding estimate, so use the mover's written quote or estimate for an actual move.

Frequently asked questions

Is the hourly rate for the entire moving crew?

No. The local-move rate is entered per mover. The calculator multiplies that rate by both the number of movers and the billable hours.

How does the default local example work?

Two movers working 5 billable hours at $50 per mover-hour produce $500 of labor. The additional default costs total $450, making a $950 subtotal. A 10% contingency brings the result to $1,045.

How does the long-distance calculation work?

Long-distance mode starts with the transport quote you enter. It does not calculate a price from mileage. Add truck, travel, packing, or other charges only when they are not already part of that quote.

What if my moving quote already includes packing or travel?

Do not enter the same charge again. The additional-cost fields are intended only for amounts that are not already included in the hourly base or long-distance quote.

Can I use this result as the mover's final price?

No. It is a scenario based on your inputs and does not replace the mover's written estimate or other project-specific pricing terms.
